Another 33 percent of the 182 firms surveyed said they were unsure how they would respond to the changing economy, while 18 percent said they planned to decrease their budgeted salary increases next year, according to the survey conducted by the AAIM Management Association.
When asked what other changes employers planned in response to the economy, 41 percent of the employers who said they would delay filling open positions.
Only 24 percent said that they were planning layoffs or reductions in work force.
AAIM is an association of more than 900 St. Louis-area employers, that holds peer-networking opportunities, conducts business research and provides management consulting and professional training.
