How to Get a Job as a Gaming Manager

All casinos have persons hired in the position of gaming manager. In this job, you will be responsible for walking the floor of the casino circulating among the tables and overseeing the work of the workers are adhering to the rules of the table and the casinos and that there are enough workers to cover each shift. In this job, you are also responsible for ensuring that the patrons are adhering to the rules of the game and the establishment. You may have to explain these procedures to some patrons who may be having difficulty with following the policies.

One of the main duties of a gaming manager is to prepare and coordinate the work schedules of the workers in the casino. In this job, you may have to take into consideration requests for time off from some workers and make sure that you do have enough workers to cover all the stations for each shift. You must also allow for workers scheduled to work at a particular time and are unable to do so because of illness. Therefore you need to have a list of workers who can come in for extra shifts with very little notice.

You will work in a supervisory capacity as a gaming manager. Since there are specialized skills needed for various activities in a casino, you may have to train workers for these positions. The same thing applies to the cashiers working in the gaming cage and those whose job it is to tend the clot machines and restock then with coins.



The work environment of gaming managers is a noisy one. Some casinos operate twenty-four hours a day, but almost all are open at least sixteen hours a day. They are also open on weekends and holidays, which means you will have to work shift work and on certain holidays. Although some may look upon this job as glamorous, it can be physically demanding. You do need to be physically fit to take this type of job because it requires that you stand and be on your feet for long periods of time.

There are no formal educational requirements to obtain a position as a gaming manager. Most casinos will not hire you if you are not a high school graduate. You do need to be licensed by the state in which you live to work in this job and meet age requirements. You must be at least eighteen years of age before you can even apply. It is essential that you know the rules of the various casino games and the laws of the state that apply to gaming. You can take courses at a technical or vocational college to gain this knowledge or you can learn it on your own. Even if youy have passed this type of course, you will have to demonstrate your skills in a practical interview in which the employer will present you with various scenarios and ask you to demonstrate your knowledge of each game. You will also need to have excellent interpersonal skills for dealing with the workers and the patrons.
