What is the role
The Contracts Commercial Advisor provides commercially focused advice and completes contract negotiation that is in line with Shell Trading & Supply policies and guidelines. The Contracts Commercial Advisor must possess commercial acumen and is responsible for the management of the contract process from initial pre-deal commercial advice to the subsequent drafting, analyzing, negotiation, and dispatch of execution documents.
The Commercial Advisor identifies risks associated with deviations from Shell Energy’s standard contract terms and obtains requisite input from internal stakeholders, such as Credit, Finance, Tax, Legal, Regulatory and Compliance. The Contracts Commercial Advisor is expected to possess a comprehensive knowledge of natural gas and/or power markets in North America and be able to overcome obstacles that may arise during the contract negotiation process.
The Contracts Commercial Advisor works in close collaboration with the Sales & Origination team, as well as other internal stakeholders. The Contracts Commercial Advisor ensures that all approvals and waivers for concessions given during the negotiation process are obtained prior to contract execution. The Contracts Team maintains applicable contract records in accordance with Shell record retention polices and external regulatory requirements.
What we need from you
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
3 or more years of working experience in a role that is dedicated to drafting, analyzing, and negotiating commodity purchase/sale contracts in the US (natural gas and/or power marketing/trading) and/or military service experience.
A degree in Law, Paralegal Certification, Engineering, Business, or equivalent practical experience working with commodity contracts is preferred. Prior experience in the energy marketing and trading industry is preferred.
Strong commercial acumen required and the ability to provide excellent support to the Sales and Origination Team by drafting and negotiating commodity contracts that preserve value for Shell, minimize risk and maintain compliance with Shell policies.
Ability to thoroughly explain contractual terms and Shell’s position to customers and other internal stakeholders.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven interpersonal skills, teamwork, strong reading comprehension and excellent analytical ability.
Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to prioritize and manage a heavy workload, meet deadlines with a sense of urgency, while maintaining a positive and professional attitude.
Demonstrated mature judgment and adherence to company and regulatory guidelines. Ability to be self-motivated and capable of working autonomously.
