Legal Practice Assistant

Our New Orleans, LA office has an opportunity for a senior-level Legal Practice Assistant to join their fast-paced team. On a day-to-day basis, the Practice Assistant works under the direction of attorneys and paralegals to whom the Practice Assistant is assigned. Under general supervision, supports the delivery of quality legal services to clients by providing secretarial and administrative assistance to attorneys, performing complex and specialized secretarial and clerical tasks, and working collaboratively and cooperatively with others in a team-oriented environment. This position supports multiple attorneys as primary assignments and provides back-up secretarial assistance to other attorneys as assigned. May also provide back up to receptionist as necessary.

At least 3 years of litigation experience in a legal secretary or practice assistant role, preferably with labor and employment experience; worker’s compensation experience is a plus.
Excellent keyboarding skills and competency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Federal and state court experience, including ECF filings and preparation of discovery responses.
Prepare client intake forms and engagement letters and initiate conflict checks.
Create, edit, format, revise and redline documents; compose routine correspondence; accurately proofread court filings and other legal and non-legal documents; perform blacklining and redlining; create table of contents and table of authorities.
Proactively maintain an overview of attorney workload, clients/matters and accurately maintain calendars and dockets; prepare status reports.
Strong oral and written language skills, including excellent spelling, grammar, punctuation, form and style; ability to collaborate smoothly with external and internal clients and other firm departments.
Ability to exercise professional judgment to assess priorities and respond appropriately to inquiries; escalates issues and seeks clarification and direction in a timely manner.
Assist with the billing process, including time entry and review/edit of proformas and resolution of billing issues.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to be proactive, initiate and organize/prioritize work, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
Experience in maintaining electronic files using a document management system, coordinating travel, and meeting arrangements.
Must be detail-oriented and proactive, able to identify action items and Implement follow-up procedures to ensure tasks are tracked and carried through to completion.
Teamwork – must be willing and able to help others and share knowledge/skills.
