Ophthalmic Assistant (OA)','200154','Ophthalmology','Washington-Seattle','Days','40 hours per week','40 hours per week','8 Hour shift betw 7:00a-5:30p','8 Hour shift betw 7:00a-5:30p','Monday - Friday','Monday - Friday','','','!*!$3,000.00 Sign on Bonus!! In this busy Ophthalmic Assistant position, located in our downtown Clinic, you will provide assistance to our Ophthalmologists/Optometrists by performing clinical and administrative duties required to most effectively handle the day-to-day functioning of their practices. You will perform Ophthalmic Assistant (OA) duties, as well as end-point refractions and higher-level ophthalmic testing.Greet and room patient. Complete patient work-up, including collection of history and chart information such as chief complaint, medications, and allergies. Perform testing of vision and neutralizing of spectacles.Ensure the fee sheet is properly completed and ready for data entry. Enter information into Cerner in accordance with VM standard process. Take intraocular pressure by applanation or Tonopen, and perform refractometry. May perform additional tests including, but not limited to: A- or B-scan calculations, Visual Fields, Pachymetry, Corneal Topography, Heidelberg Retina Tomography (HRT) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT).May assist physician with in-office procedures, as appropriate and in accordance with incumbent’s training. Administer ocular medications as prescribed by the physician. Educate patients as necessary or requested. Provide patient counseling regarding proper use of medication. As needed, distribute approved pre- and post-op guidelines. Perform telephone triage to assess urgent versus emergent needs and create schedules to meet the needs of the patient. Work with e-call physician’s teams to work in patients. General scheduling of patients and handling of phone messages. Restock and clean exam rooms after patient care. Close rooms at end of patient schedule.  Located in Seattle, WA, Virginia Mason is an internationally recognized leader in the continuous improvement of health care. Must have 6 months working in an optometry or ophthalmology practice.

Must have a working knowledge of anatomy, pharmacology, medical terminology, sterilization techniques, and basic eye care, with an understanding of ophthalmic testing and the use of ophthalmic instruments and equipment.  Basic skills in operating a computer and office equipment. Strong interpersonal and customer relations skills; strong communication skills and organizational skills required.  Ability to make chart documentation with entry into electronic medical record. 

This is a temporary position in order to hire individuals from the outside who have experience but no certification.  A  newly hired employee must obtain JCAHPO COA within 1 year of employment, then transfer to COA job title.
