POSITION OVERVIEW

The Administrative Senior Policy Analyst within the Office of External Affairs will report to the Executive Director of External Affairs. In addition to the general duties, the Administrative Senior Policy Analyst will provide, research, advocacy, writing, engagement, administrative and other types of professional support to senior public affairs staff.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Conducting issue-related research, including data and public policy review and analysis, in a non-partisan manner.

Collaborating with senior staff and institutional researchers on special initiatives and research involving higher education, criminal justice, public safety and workforce and economic development interests.

Assisting in the strategic development and launch of new initiatives and joint ventures with internal and external stakeholders to advance the mission and priorities of the college.

Tracking and monitoring legislative, budgetary and regulatory issues nationally and locally and delivering oral and/or written summaries or reports about such issues.

Reviewing and summarizing policy briefs, reports and advocacy papers issued by interest groups and professional associations.

Conducting research about communities of practice and potential partners.

Monitoring public hearing and grant announcements.

Assisting in the development and filing of grant and funding proposals to public entities, assuring proper completion of grant funding requirements and/or completion of required documentation.

Monitoring status of grant proposals/applications and maintaining appropriate reports.

Developing fact sheets, legislative summaries, talking points; contributing to reports and publications; facilitating outreach emails and drafting other client-oriented correspondence and communications.

Organizing and designing presentations.

Assisting with strategic outreach internally and externally.

Assisting with advocacy/lobbying activities and important engagement events and conferences to support the college’s priorities and interests, including but not limited to visits to campus by dignitaries and thought leaders.

Assisting with digital engagement and media content and presence.

Providing logistics and other support to on and off-campus events.

Collaborating with College departments and public, professional and community-based organizations on selected initiatives.

Designing and maintaining outreach database(s) and files.

Providing client- service support to senior staff: scheduling, planning and attending meetings, briefings and conferences.

Troubleshooting issues related to public sector.

Performing routine office support tasks as required by the senior staff, which can include completing expense reports, filing time sheets, drafting and editing documents and reports, copying and scanning documents, maintaining subject files, submitting purchase requisitions, ordering merchandise and services, and scheduling events and meetings.

Exercising other duties as assigned and directed.

Applicants should be able to work extended hours and an occasional weekend January through June.

Candidates selected to interview will be required to complete a short writing exercise at the time of the meeting in addition to submitting a longer writing sample of their choice.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate should possess:

Excellent research, writing and organizational skills.

Experience in policy analysis and research.

Experience in grant writing and in project management.

Experience in analyzing and managing data and tracking legislation.

Experience in drafting and producing briefings, correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, presentations and creative materials.

Experience in planning and executing meetings.

The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and be comfortable in a high-energy environment.

Strong Interpersonal skills.

Ability to communicate effectively, take initiative and work independently.

Collaborative skills.

Ability to work with government, business and other external stakeholders in a non-partisan manner.

Familiarity with government especially the legislative process preferred.

Experience in academia encouraged.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$61,394 - $81,855 commensurate with experience.
